Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) denounces the Georgia Election Board’s September 20 decision not to rely exclusively on electronic voting machines by also requiring hand-counting of ballots in each precinct.

Georgia uses Dominion machines with Smartmatic software. Warnock’s controversial election was determined by the tally of those machines without benefit of a hand count. Georgia has been a legal battleground since the 2020 election that elected Warnock to the Senate and defeated Donald Trump.

The hand-counted ballot verication rule, Warnock tells MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, “is an effort to turn democracy on its head.”

Warnock alleges that hand-counting ballots as well as electronic tallies amount to “voter suppression.”

“And apparently, these members of the state board of elections whom he calls pit bulls are out there doing his bidding and trying to create a scenario in which they can declare by fiat who the winner of Georgia is,” the senator says. “This is how voter suppression happens, undermine votes a little bit here, a little bit there.”

“The news that Georgia voters [ought to be] paying attention to is this: The fact that they are doing this, means that they know we’re winning,” says Warnock.
