LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman “has made a multimillion-dollar investment in Smartmatic, an election technology company, with the investment intended to help fund the company’s lawsuit against Fox News and Newsmax,” Forbes reports.
“’The 2024 election is the biggest election in earth’s history, and the market is massive, and Smartmatic was built to seize it, and they’ve spent the last four years dealing with a coordinated and orchestrated smear campaign. They could be a $400 million company right now if not for the slander and the smears,’ Dmitri Mehlhorn told The Washington Post,” Forbes reports.
“Smartmatic built a global business by using technology to better engage citizens, regardless of party or ideology, by making voting simple and trustworthy,” Hoffman says in a related CNN report. “After Donald Trump lost in 2020, however, Smartmatic became a target of the defamatory campaign to overturn his defeat.”
Hoffman says he has known Antonio Mugica, Smartmatic CEO and co-founder, for years. He says he is “thrilled” to support Smartmatic.
“Terms of the investment, first reported by The Washington Post, were not disclosed,” according to CNN.

3. Reid Hoffman is funding Smartmatic’s defamation
1. Why would the very politicized Reid Hoffman and Smartmatic team up on defamation suits against Smartmatic critics?
2. The terms of Hoffman’s investment in Smartmatic, as with all large Smartmatic transactions, remain hidden. What financial interest does Hoffman have in defending Smartmatic? Was it in the form of ownership of shares, or of “investing” in the company’s litigation?
3. If Smartmatic was built to “seize” the American electoral market, is Hoffman trying to build up the company to dominate American electronic voting systems, either directly or by leasing its technology?
4. Is there a political interest to protect Smartmatic’s unique software capabilities?
