In a message to “Venezuela and the global community,” Smartmatic denies any involvement in Venezuela’s October 15 regional elections, but admits that it did provide the software “for a source code audit.”

“To fulfill contractual obligations acquired long before the regional elections, Smartmatic simply delivered its software to the National Electoral Council, in the presence of the political parties, for a source code audit,” the company says in an October 20 release.

“However, Smartmatic did not participate in the configuration of the voting machines, nor did it provide services for other phases of the election such as results tabulation or managing logistics processes.

“It is important to highlight that payments corresponding to the services rendered to the Venezuelan State for the Parliamentary Elections of 2015 and the election to the National Constituent Assembly of 2017 remain pending,” according to the statement.
