Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson designates America’s “election infrastructure” as part of the nation’s “critical infrastructure”.

“By ‘election infrastructure,’ we mean storage facilities, polling places, and centralized vote tabulations locations used to support the election process, and information and communications technology to include voter registration databases, voting machines, and other systems to manage the election process and report and display results on behalf of state and local governments,” Johnson says. (Emphasis added)

Johnson is the only outgoing Obama cabinet member to assist as an acting secretary to help the transition to the Trump administration.

1. Why did the Secretary of Homeland Security designate the election infrastructure as part of the country’s critical infrastructure?

2. If DHS had discovered massive vulnerabilities or bugs, why didn’t it initiate an investigation into the case?

3. Was this decision based on the methods used by hostile foreign actors, or by the companies whose business model is to conduct elections?
