Sequoia Voting Systems “and its parent, the Smartmatic Corporation” announce “that, contrary to reports, the companies have voluntarily submitted a notice to the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS),” the companies state in a joint news release.
Smartmatic CEO Antonio Mugica denies that the Venezuelan regime owned any stake in the company.
“No foreign government or entity – including Venezuela – has ever held an ownership stake in Smartmatic, and we have voluntarily filed with CFIUS to put to rest the baseless but persistent rumors about our ownership,” Mugica says.
The press release then lists what purports to be all the shareholders and their percentages of shares.
Both companies say they “voluntarily provided significant information to CFIUS on all aspects” of their businesses and ownership “and the security and integrity of Sequoia’s voting solutions.
Mugica ends by calling Smartmatic/Sequoia “the world’s most secure and auditable voting solutions.”
They announce a news conference the next day at a Washington DC law firm.

Could the Venezuelan government or regime leaders be silent partners in Smartmatic?
Could the publicly known Smartmatic shareholders be acting as cutouts for someone else?
Will Mugica and Smartmatic allow CFIUS to find out?
