“Hugo Chavez’s ability to manipulate the vote in Chicago is impossible,” Sequoia CEO Jack Blaine said after a heated Chicago City Council meeting in which a powerful alderman called Sequoia’s system a plot by the Venezuelan regime.

The machines failed spectacularly in the March 21 primary, what Chicago’s ABC Channel 7 calls a “vote-counting nightmare.”

“We’ve stumbled upon what could be an international conspiracy to subvert the electoral process in the United States of America,” alderman Ed Burke told reporters.

Chicago officials looked only at “mechanical problems” in the Sequoia machines, the report says.

1. Was the alderman correct to be concerned about a malign foreign influence operation to subvert the American electoral process?

2. Was the Sequoia CEO correct to assert that the foreign regime that sponsored the software his company uses would find it “impossible” to use that software to subvert our electoral process?

3. Has any recognized independent computer or election technology authority, or any counterintelligence authority, said categorically that it would be “impossible” for a foreign power to subvert the software used in American elections?
